Tribute to a Fallen Soldier's Wife

Today I watched the snowflakes fall
And then I thought of you
For if I could change just one thing
I know exactly what I would do

The day you packed your suitcase
You did it with such pride and care
I only watched at the side of the bed
And you picked out the clothes to wear

You looked up at me and then stood tall
And held your arms open wide
I almost climbed inside of you
For I was tearing up inside

Today was the day we parted ways
Although I knew it was not forever
It still pained me inside my heart
That we could not be together

You whispered promises of joyous returns
You even made me blush
And as we walked out to the car
I felt the sudden rush

The rush to tell you how much I loved you
To repeat how much I cared
The rush to have to remind you
That I will always be waiting here

Today I watched the sun rise
New flowers began to bloom
And as I looked at the calendar
I remembered you should be home

And then the tears start once again
My heart beats so very fast
When I think of how we said goodbye
And how it wasn’t supposed to last

I see the big black car
As it pulls into my lane
And then I feel that rush
To want you home again

I watch you as you are brought off the plane
So handsomely wrapped in our flag
My hands just won’t stop shaking
For this is my Remembrance Day

And as I walk to meet you
I feel a sudden rush
The rush to hold you in my arms
To feel your loving touch

But I can now only say once more
Goodbye to you my love
But now this time there are no arms
Strong enough to hold me up

Today I planted flowers
The children ran and played
We sang songs and held hands
As we remember you at your grave.

The ultimate price is what you paid
As you honoured your duty in life
And I am so very proud to say
That I am a soldiers wife!

Ontario "Highway of Heroes"

Let's officially designate 'Highway of Heroes'

In Ontario, when a Canadian soldier dies for his country in Afghanistan they touch Canadian soil at Canadian Forces Base Trenton. From there, a funeral procession leaves the base and heads to Toronto, Ontario taking our departed heroes to the Centre for Forensic Sciences. Along the 172km path of Highway 401 people fill the overpasses to show their support, waving Canadian flags and signs, in a sort of paying their respects to the fallen and their families.

It's been unofficially dubbed the "Highway of Heroes" and I personally would love for an official naming of the 401, from Trenton to Toronto down to the Don Valley Parkway "The Highway of Heroes". It's already called that to the thousands of people who line the bridges along the way and it should be remembered as such in the future for generations to gather and pay their respects.

The final decision is the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and i have contacted them about this. Inspiration to make this petition by "CF Enthusiast" from army.ca. Information provided by Pete Fisher Article and i don't wish to take credit for his information, just trying to get the ball rolling :) Thank you for your time.
